adj. friendly; pleasant
About the Word:
AMBIABLE is one of those tricky words that isn't always used the same way its definition would have you believe. Of course we can say, "What an AMIABLE fellow!" and mean that he's friendly. But, a lot of the time AMIABLE can mean that people have cooled off from a more intense relationship.
Vocab Teaching Tip #2:
Provide multiple example sentences.
Students don't understand a word completely until they see it operate in multiple contexts. So, if you aren't providing sample sentences or asking students to write their own, you're asking for trouble. Most students these days will simply Google "use AMIABLE in a sentence". The websites that provide the answers aren't great.
Instead, provide your own illustrious examples or visit sites like WordlyWise3000.com that have done some great work for you.
Write as many example sentences necessary for students to understand the word. Two is the absolute minimum.
